Productivity advice for the week:
Productivity Debt
An interesting concept I have come across and wanted to share with you guys.
When we become entrenched in the world of productivity and achieving more, it can begin to run away with us.
We fall for over-optimisation.
Oliver Burkeman has the concept of “productivity debt.”.
The notion that we start our day with so many things to do that we can never achieve them all, and therefore relaxation or feeling happy with ourselves, becomes a rarity.
This means that to switch off, we feel we have to “earn” it, to claw ourselves back up to a minimum standard of output.
This mentality is hurting you.
Ditch it.
Organisation advice for the week:
Done List
This is a way of both staying organised and overcoming “productivity debt”.
The theory is simple.
You have a blank piece of paper at the start of each day.
Each task you complete, no matter how big or small, gets put on the list.
It’s an easy format for making all wins feel important.
It can also help you get out of a rut.
No one needs to know that you put “brushed teeth” or “made bed” on there.
The list is simply for you.
